The skills we can teach you

We can give you an understanding of how plants soil and situation work together to produce a harmonious garden

Planting

When and how to plant for the best results. Use the knowledge of your soil, your garden situation and the plants you like to give you the garden you want.  We  can show you how to 'read' your plants so you will know whether they need help, or or not. Happy plants make happy gardeners.

Pruning

The books make it sound complicated but some knowledge of the plant and some common sense rules can provide all the help you will need for most types of pruning.

Soil improvement

Soil is probably the most important part of the garden; unseen but vital.  We can show you how to assess your soil and how to maintain and improve its structure by making and using your own compost. Tidy  your garden, make compost , use it for mulch and create a virtuous cycle with a healthy soil and vigorous  plants

Design

We can help you to find the right combination of foliage, flowers and features to give you the type of garden you want .  Whether it's a back yard with pots, a cottage garden, a potager, a low maintenance garden, a dry mediterranean garden, a gravelly hot garden, a shady fern haven, or a place to grow your own food in containers and raised beds, we can help.

Propagation

Clone your favourite plants.  Try one of many types of vegetative propagation which make genetically identical copies. We can show you how.  It is much easier than you might  think, if you follow a few simple rules. Or collect seed and have a huge variety of plants of all types. We can help you achieve success in all types of propagation.

A little science

We can show you how a basic knowledge of plants and their natural habitats can enhance your success and enjoyment in the garden. When should I plant? Which plants thrive where and how to tell just by looking at them? All these questions and more can be answered with a little knowledge.
